PhD Dissertation Successfully Defended Within the Framework of the BERNICA International Project

On June 12, 2026, Aizhan Omorova, a PhD doctoral student at Osh State University, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) within the framework of the international BERNICA research project.

Her dissertation, entitled "The Effect of the DASH Diet and Omega-3 Supplementation on Apolipoprotein A1 and B Levels in Patients with Hypertension," investigated the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for reducing cardiovascular risk factors in patients with arterial hypertension. The study evaluated the impact of the DASH dietary pattern and Omega-3 supplementation on apolipoprotein A1 and B levels, which are recognized as important biomarkers of cardiovascular risk.

The research was supervised by Kenesh Oskonbaevich Dzhusupov, MD, PhD (Candidate of Medical Sciences), Coordinator of the BERNICA Project, and Indrani Kalkan, PhD, Associate Professor, whose scientific guidance and international collaboration significantly contributed to the successful completion of the study.

The successful dissertation defense represents an important milestone in the implementation of the BERNICA project, which aims to strengthen research capacity, promote international academic collaboration, and support high-quality research addressing current challenges in public health and clinical nutrition.
